Correcting the FRA Systematic Error in VTEC Maps From SMOS Radiometric Data

The Faraday Rotation (FR) is a non-negligible effect at the L-band, which operation frequency of Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission. This introduces rotation in electromagnetic field polarization when propagating through ionosphere that must be compensated. Recently, methodology was developed order to retrieve Vertical Total Electron Content (VTEC) from SMOS radiometric data with aim better correct [1]. In work, systematic patterns retrieved Angle (FRA) were detected. this paper, these are characterized corrected improve quality VTEC maps. These maps can then re-used level 2 processor for correction FRA impact using SMOS-derived instead GPS measurements on ocean brightness temperature measurement has also been analyzed. Results analysis show usage those allows significant enhancement temperatures, will lead an improvement salinity retrievals.
